REHABILITATION

Chelsfield Equestrian Centre in Kent is a long established riding school and livery yard under new management since September 2006. Alongside the normal functions of a busy yard, we are now able to offer dressage schooling to advanced level and, more specifically, schooling for horses who have been experiencing problems. Has your horse recently needed the attention of a physio for a performance related injury, for example a sore back, muscle deficiency/wastage, unlevelness, bend problems, outline problems balance problems and so on?

Here at CEC we have a different philosophy on dressage. We have a vision of dressage for all horses, not just the expensive, highly bred and highly talented ones. Our vision is one where dressage is used to specifically improve your horse. The word improve being used in the widest sense aiming to improve the horse physically making him/her stronger and psychologically helping him understand his job better which will make the horse easier to ride giving him an easier life both physically and mentally.

We aim to improve the horse’s potential longevity as a ridden horse by educating him/her to carry the rider in a healthy fashion thus making the horse less prone to performance injuries. And, lastly but not least, through extending the education process to the rider, we aim to try and help the rider continue the process started at CEC back at home thereby making a much happier, more rewarding and long-lasting partnership between horse and rider.

Each horse receives a complete evaluation in the first days after arrival. Based on that evaluation plus some history and the job the horse will be expected to perform with his/her long-term rider, an action plan will be formulated. The length of time each horse will require to make significant improvements will vary with each individual horse but realistically an owner should expect a minimum stay of at least two weeks. In cases where significant differences in muscular structure needs to be made anything up to around 12 weeks is possible to gain full benefit from the programme.

We are committed to the belief that dressage can and should be used to improve the lives of all horses. Why? Because every horse deserves the chance to be special – special at doing his job the best he can and special because he is your horse.
